Start with SELF-Compasssion!


Knowing something is different than using or practicing it.  So, while this infographic offers us some knowledge about self-compassion, how can we put it into practice? Let’s use today, “Tryday Friday”, to give it a go!

Mindfulness.  Just watch your actions and the feelings that arise for you today.  When you notice any negativity or barriers, notice where you feel it in your body. Listen to your body and make the association between what you’re thinking, saying or doing with what your body is feeling and telling you.  Don’t judge it, just pay attention to it. In other words, if you listen to your body when it whispers, you won’t have to hear it scream. Nobody wants to be screamed at. Start with your body and your mind will follow suit.  

Self-Kindness. When you realize that you’re struggling with something, take a break and do something that is soothing to you. Have a cup of tea, play some music, take a nap, go for a walk, paint your nails, shoot some baskets, make some art.  You know that you would offer these ideas to a friend, so embody what you share, and be kind to yourself. 

Connectedness. This is about shared humanity.  Remembering that we all want and need the same things is the perfect way to take a step forward with a self-compassion practice.  We all want to be seen and heard and loved. There is no better way to enrich your own life than to live by the Golden Rule. So, look another person in the eye, acknowledge someone’s presence with a nod, smile at, raise a high-five to, or hug the people in your environment.
